There are several bridleways and footpaths in the area with quiet country lanes to peruse at your leisure.

 

Penrith is a welcoming market town with beautiful red sandstone buildings, fascinating yards and alleyways to discover. Just south of Penrith is the Lowther Estate, with the majestic Lowther Castle.

Carlisle is the Border City and the main shopping, historical, commercial and industrial centre. 

 

The Lake District National Park, the Scottish Border and the North Pennines are close by. A little further afield, but well within reach for a day trip, are the Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian’s Wall, stretching from Carlisle to Newcastle.

 

The Solway estuary and coast are also a short drive away with new maritime attractions developing in Maryport and Whitehaven.
